Volunteers are Welcome

Volunteers are essential to the success of the Vaughan Basketball Association (VBA) and its programs. Their efforts foster personal growth, community connection, recognition, and the satisfaction of helping others. In return, volunteers are expected to act in ways that uphold the VBA’s values and goals, as their leadership strongly influences how participants view the organization.

These Volunteer Guidelines are designed to support volunteers in modeling behavior that helps VBA participants become confident, well-rounded, and responsible individuals.

VOLUNTEERS HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO:

  • Treating everyone fairly, regardless of gender, origin, color, sexual orientation, religion, political beliefs, or economic status.

  • Focusing feedback on performance, not on the person.

  • Maintaining high personal standards and representing basketball and volunteering positively by:


    • a) Avoiding public criticism of volunteers, athletes, or officials.

    • b) Not using tobacco or consuming alcohol around children.

    • c) Avoiding profane, insulting, harassing, or offensive language.

  • Ensuring all activities are appropriate for participants’ age, ability, experience, and fitness, and educating them on maintaining a safe environment.

  • Learning, respecting, and following the rules and regulations of basketball.

  • Seeking ongoing professional development and self-awareness.

  • Showing respect to members of other sports organizations, in both victory and defeat, and encouraging others to do the same.

  • Promoting respect for both the rules and spirit of basketball.

  • Completing assigned volunteer duties promptly.

  • ommunicating and cooperating with parents or guardians, involving them in decisions about their child’s development.

VOLUNTEERS MUST:

    Ensure the safety of all participants.

    Follow your sport’s sexual abuse policy.

    Treat everyone with respect; avoid any form of harassment or abuse.

    Do not support or permit the use of drugs or banned substances.

    Never supply alcohol to minors.

I have read and understand the above statements and agree to conduct myself in a manner that demonstrates the standards established in the Vaughan Basketball Guidelines for Volunteers.
